PLACE SHAPING

Most council’s have lots of local knowledge, but little consensus on making and communicating "place". It’s a new and interesting challenge for local government and one which we fully understand. You have to define how your area is perceived by others and we can help you.

For example Slough a famous town west of London has been defined and damaged by poets, journalists and commentators over recent years, even though local counsellors firmly believed then and now, that it has a great story to tell – vibrant enterprise and apparitional communities seeking to create prosperity and improve lives. With hindsight perhaps the council in the pre-place shaping days didn’t do enough to sell the town, because they didn’t feel empowered to do so and had too many competing priorities and lacked the communication tools and skills to do so. They needed to work harder to instigate a consistent plan across each and every department, to ensure communicating about their place is at the heart of everything they do.

We think that a great place and inspiring local leadership have to be based on a strong and dynamic proposition, linking past success and future aspiration, that whilst it needs to be realistic in its expectations, it also needs to be expressed in the language which encompasses all the demographic of the town, city or village, communicated in a way so that it's youth pays attention, that all minorities feel they are also included and collectively responsible, inclusive of all newly arrived immigrants, so that no matter what their native tongue is, that all can visually understand, this will be possible only by completely doing away with wordy propositions that too often have infected local authorities in the past.

Imaginary Films know that using video will make the task of understanding how to communicate "place" a priority, so that in future effective communications can engage and inspire local people to take pride in their community.
